Hi,

For the DSN/46 and NMSQL/9 the numbers are just a numerical type EMC has associated to the license within the Company. So all DSN licenses will show up as 46, NMSQL will be 9, NMO would be 6, NMSAP 15 etc.

For the client connections the number actually references the bundle as we sell different numbers of client connections from 1 to 100 (from memory) so in this case this license will allow you to connect an extra 5 clients into the data zone.

The best way to check the type of license you have and if the code is valid is to use the following command: -

NOTE: This does not take any action within the environment for adding the license etc, purely reporting.

c:> nsrcap -nv -c

license type: Z15

demo days: 45 days

So from the above output you can see that 15 is for SAPOracle licenses, and is particular enabler is valid for a Windows client.

The name gives you a fuller description of the license

The license type shows you two pieces of information, OS type and the numerical value EMC has attributed to this particular license, so: -

"Z" is for Windows, if "D" is reported this is for Unix (any flavour including Linux). Z15 confirms this as Windows SAPOracle license which ties in with the description.

There are some exceptions to this for very old licenses, however they shouldn't be in use or seen now as the software they reference is no longer supported. There is also a change to be made soon (if not already) where Linux has been reclassified. Module licenses for Windows will also cover Linux OS, and I think this will be reflected in some way (like Win/Linux).

The number unless it refers to bundles is not really relevant, it’s the type (Win/Linux or Unix) which is more important to get correct.

Bundle licenses include: -

Client connections (including OpenVMS, dedupe clients etc)

Cluster Client Connections

Storage Nodes

Dedicated Storage Nodes
