erase tapes in stead of degauss

Hi,

I have Networker V 8.2 on Windows 2008 and on Windows 2012. I use a HP MSL4048 (LTO-3) and MSL8096 Jukeboxes (LTO-5).

I now have to erase the tapes that contain data that is too old.

I looked on the Jukebox and did not find a manual tape erase possibility...

Is there a tape erase possibility in Networker that overwrites a certain times the tape so no data can retrieved from it anymore ?

Best regards,

There is no such feature in NetWorker that would help sanitize the tape. But you could however overwrite the tapes with junk data a couple of times to ensure that the original data cannot be retrieved. But again it might not be accepted as an ideal method to sanitize tape by any organization.

Labeling is a procedure as no standard tape drive will be able to read beyond a logical End-of-Tape mark which indicated the end of the valid data section.

As you work with HP stuff I assume that the HP Tape Tools have an erase feature that you can use.

Check erase commands (it comes with NW; at least UNIX/Linux.
