upgrade networker

halo

newbie here....planning to upgrade 7.6.2 to 7.6.3 ...best practice is to uninstall and install from fresh...in uninstall (use add remove program or setup/change?), you remove/delete everything completely incl metadata?

/nsr, /mm,/res etc?....then how new version knows about previous backed up info?

adios

Jo

Don't worry...

NetWorker will create an eval "Update for NetWorker 8.0" Enabler Code automatically.

i.e. you don't need to apply a Code.

However, you should Authorize it within 30 days.

Mustafa

When you uninstall NetWorker, it removes binary files and other files. Mm, res and index holds metadata of networker, these wont be removed.

That means mm, res and index will be availble under nsr directory, even after uninstalling NetWorker.

You can install NetWorker 7.6.3 on the same location.

That should complete your upgrade with all old metadata intact.

Important: Perform a bootstrap backup and keep it safe, before you make any changes/upgrade to NetWorker.

Hi Jo,

You should not remove or rename any of the old nsr folder while upgrading.

The process you have to follow here should be the following:

1. Use Networker 7.6.3 setup.exe file to uninstall the old package

2. This will remove the older version installed

3. Again use the same Networker 7.6.3 setup.exe file to install the latest version.

Thank you

Hi Jo,

When you remove the application from your OS, you would not rename any of the old nsr folder.

After upgrade and when you use the same old path for installing the networker, the old binaries are updated with the new one.

Thanks

Hi,

There is a option in 7.6.3 to upgrade. There is no need to uninstall the old version and reinstall the new version. Upgraded to 7.6.3 recently using upgrade option. Worked fine without any issues. All previous networker configuration will be retained unless you delete the Networker installed directory

BTW did you have to put in upgrade enablers from EMC?

From 7.6.2 to 7.6.3 you don't need update enabler.

I was a bit off here. I was also reading comments on a NW 8 upgrade and accidently put this remark here. I knew the answer for the 7.6.2.to 7.6.3 but I have heard of some cases that you need an upgrade enabler for version 8.

No idea about NW8, but all recent versions will add update enabler automatically so you have 30 days to fix that - more than enough.
