Connection 2 PC 6248 10gb SFP+

Hi,

We trying to connect 2 switches power connect 6248 using U691D module in bay2 in 2 switches.

We using gbic Ftlx8571d3bcl-fc in 2 switches

When we connect the fiber between two switches with Ethernet in stack-port status of ports is Down

We using last firmware: 3.3.18.1

What could be happening? I using incorrect gbic/transceiver?

I not using to stack, I want to connect different switches via 10gb port.

Below logging of switches, running config and port status:

did you try to swap optic cable threads on one GBIC?

Did you ever find a solution?

I also have an old 6248 that I'm trying to use the 10GB SFP+ ports on.  In my case, I have installed the 10GE SFTP+ Module in Bay 1 (6200-XGSF w/2xDell FTLX8571D3BCL transceivers).  Bay 2 is occupied by a 10GBase-T module that is working fine.

console#show boot-version

console#show stack-port

1 xg3 Ethernet Ethernet Link Up 10 <-- 10GBase-T
1 xg4 Ethernet Ethernet Link Down Unknown <-- 10GBase-T (not in use)

The client connects fine if I use one of the SFP ports on the front (1/g45-48) so I know the cable (10Gb duplex mm OM3) is good, and the transceiver in the card shows 10000baseT/Full is supported:

[chad@maxmedia ~]$ ethtool enp1s0f0

Any suggestions?

Hi @chestr,

Could you let us know the module's DPN#?

Have you already enable the port by entering #no shut?

What is your goal of using the Bay 1 SFP+ module?

What if you swap Bay 1 with Bay 2 module?

The DPN is 0U691D, and the port has been enabled by using #no shut.

console(config-if-1/xg2)#no shut

console#show interfaces status ethernet 1/xg2

Port Type Duplex Speed Neg Link Flow Control
State Status
----- ------------------------------ ------ ------- ---- --------- ------------
1/xg2 10G - Level N/A Unknown Auto Down Inactive

Flow Control:Enabled

The goal is to be able to use 10Gb for SAN connectivity.  I have two ESX servers that have 10GbaseT ports which will use 1/xg3 and 1/xg4.  The SFP+ port needs to go to my NAS, which has the FC port.  Here is what 1/xg2 looks like:

console#show interfaces detail ethernet 1/xg2

Port Type Duplex Speed Neg Admin Link
State State
----- ------------------------------ ------ ------- ---- ----- -----
1/xg2 10G - Level N/A Unknown Auto Up Down

Port Description
---- --------------------------------------------------------------------------
1/xg2 MAXMEDIA_Uplink

Flow Control:Enabled
Port: 1/xg2
VLAN Membership mode:Access Mode

Operating parameters:
PVID: 29
Ingress Filtering: Enabled
Acceptable Frame Type: Untagged
Default Priority: 0
GVRP status:Disabled

Port 1/xg2 is member in:

VLAN Name Egress rule Type
---- --------------------------------- ----------- --------
29 SAN Untagged Static

Static configuration:
PVID: 29
Ingress Filtering: Enabled
Acceptable Frame Type: Untagged

Port 1/xg2 is statically configured to:

VLAN Name Egress rule
---- --------------------------------- -----------
29 SAN Untagged

Forbidden VLANS:
VLAN Name
---- ---------------------------------

Port 1/xg2 Enabled
State: Disabled Role: Disabled
Port id: 128.50 Port Cost: 0
Port Fast: No (Configured: no ) Root Protection: No
Designated bridge Priority: 32768 Address: 80:00:00:1C:23:5E:B5:9B
Designated port id: 0.0 Designated path cost: 0
CST Regional Root: 80:00:00:1C:23:5E:B5:9B CST Port Cost: 0
BPDU: sent 0, received 0

As for your last question, I cannot swap the modules as the 10Gbase-T module will not work in Bay 1.  But I have tried the SFP+ module in Bay 2 with the same results.  Also, I have tried two different 6200-XGSF modules, each with it's own Dell branded SFP+ transceivers, in Bay1 and Bay 2, and had the same result with both modules.

Thank you for responding!

Hi, Could you review "How to configure the optimal switch settings for an IP based SAN" from here https://dell.to/3kvACVF might be it helpful.

I'm not sure, I saw "6200series switches support dual 10 Gb slot interfaces. These interfaces can
operate at 10 Gbps when supporting optional SFP+, CX4, XFP, and 10GBase-T modules."  from pg 52 https://dell.to/3wfsifq I don't know what we are overlooking. I checked DPN and it seems okay to me might be transceivers causing that. I'm confused, anyone in the community is welcome to share their experience.

Thanks for replying Erman,

I have previously reviewed this doc and will put into practice some of its recommendations.  But first I need all components to be able to communicate over the 10G ports.  Do you have any suggestions to help troubleshoot the connectivity issues I'm having?

I agree that my issues are symptomatic an unsupported SFP+ but I cannot find a compatibility matrix online.  I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who has this working so that I can compare part numbers.

Just to close out my portion of this discussion, I did get this sorted out.  The Dell FTLX8571D3BCL SFPs are NOT compatible.  The SFP+ modules that do work are Dell 407-BBOU.
