Not able to ping default gateway from blade server

Dear All,

I'm facing connectivity issue with M630 blade server. I m not able to ping default gateway from blade server. We have MXL 10/40Gbe Switch IO Module on back panel of M1000e chassis.

We have connected two fiber cable from cisco core switch to dell I/O module and configured this port as LACP on both the end i.e on dell switch as well as cisco switch. We have configured VLAN i.e. 210 on cisco switch as well as on dell switch.

We can ping the default gateway from Dell switch but we cannot reach the default gateway from any of the blade server.

Even we can ping the blade server with each other but we cannot reach the default gateway from any of the servers.

Appreciate your quick respond.

Regards,

Hakim. B

What device is the default gateway? Does it reside in the same VLAN as the servers? Are the servers able to communicate with other devices attached to the Cisco switch? Other devices in other VLANs? Is the Cisco switch your core switch? Just trying to get a better visualization of the network and where communication is dropping.

It sounds like the configuration of the switches are correct, but please feel free to post them up for review.

Have you double checked the IP configuration to ensure the servers are in the same subnet as the rest of the VLAN?

Are the servers showing up in the ARP and MAC tables for the Dell and Cisco switches?

Thanks for posting up the config. This is what I have gathered looking through it.

- All internal server facing interfaces are set to untagged for VLAN 1.

- Port-channel 110 is the connection to the Cisco switch.

- Port-channel 110 is set to tagged for VLAN 210

Based on this information, it would appear that the issue is that VLAN 1 is not configured to cross port-channel 110. We need to go into VLAN 1 interface and add port-channel 110.

# interface Vlan 1

# Untagged port-channel 110

Port-channel 110 will also need to be placed in hybrid mode.

# interface Port-channel 110

# Portmode hybrid

Can you share some additional information about the IP scheme being used? I see VLAN 1 is configured to obtain an IP through DHCP, which is not commonly done.

Dear Daniel.

I m getting below error.

Dell(conf)#interface port-channel 110
Dell(conf-if-po-110)#portmode hybrid
% Error: Port is in Layer-2 mode Po 110.

And regarding VLAN 1., you want me tagged or untagged port-channel 110.

I tried both but it is not allowing to do anything in VLAN 1.

You will need to issue the no switchport command first, then the hybrid command, then add back in the switchport command.

http://dell.to/2i2lrTh

VLAN 1 should match the Cisco side, which should be untagged. Can you please elaborate on the issue you are seeing with VLAN 1?
