PowerConnect 2848 - Creating VLANS for other organization in the same office
Hi,
I need to separate two VLANS so that the two organisation would not have access to each other computer and files, but still able to share the internet access. How should I setup using the Powerconnect console?
Port 1-9 - Our PC clients (VLAN 2)
Port 10 - Other office switch (VLAN 3)
Port 45 - to other switch
Port 46 - to router (internet)
I have been trying to setup using the console but no success.
Please help, thank you.

The first thing that comes to mind is the use of private VLANs, but the 2800 series switches do not support private VLANs. I don't believe you will be able to achieve this outcome on this model switch. What model router is being used? The router may have some features we can leverage.

Thanks for the reply. We are using Sonicwall NSA 220. Any ideas?

The NSA can be configured to be the gateway for the different VLANs.
On the 2824 you would configure VLAN 1 as untagged, and any additional VLANs as tagged. Here is a video that can help with VLAN settings on the 2824: http://bit.ly/2iDHttR
On the NSA you will also need to configure each VLAN, assign an IP address to each VLAN, and Tag the additional VLANs. Here is a KB article with a similar setup using a Cisco switch. The concepts are the same though. http://bit.ly/2jQhWvk
To prevent the VLANs from communicating with each other, you will need to place each VLAN in its own zone, and set the zone to be untrusted. Here is a KB article on setting up zones.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any further questions.
