PowerConnect 3548 - NO Connection to CLI

Hi,

i want to reset the 3548 to the factory defaults, because someone deleted the IP-configuration of the VLAN 1. So I can't connect to the switch by http. I connected via RS232 an Hyper-Terminal to the CLI. I see the output of the power-on self test but i can't send any command to the switch.

  • Can I reach my goal without CLI?
  • What can I do to reach the CLI?

Thank you for your help.

It looks like it is reaching the console prompt and then sends the link is down errors. If you press enter or start typing commands does it bring up a console. Also earlier in the boot you may be able to enter the boot menu when this prompt is shown.

Autoboot in 2 seconds - press RETURN or Esc. to abort and enter prom.

From here you could choose the erase flash file which will make the switch nonbootable and then you can transfer a new firmware image.

Hi,

The CLI or web GUI are the only methods. What is displayed on the screen after it shows the POST?

Hi Josh,

thanks for your quick reply.

After the message - Autoboot in 2 seconds - press RETURN or Esc. to abort and enter prom. -

there is no possibility to interrupt. The system does not react after pressing ESC or RETURN or anything else.

It seems that the connection only recieve informations.

Some things i would check.

Emulator settings, 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no start bits, 1 stop bits.

While trying to connect ensure not other devices are plugged into the switch.

Try resting the switch using the reset button on the front of the switch.

If you are able to access the boot menu, then reflash the firmware and see if the switch will boot.

I would double check the cable being used and ensure it is a Null modem cable. Here is a KB article that details the pinout for the cable.

Also, try using different terminal software.
