Dell doesn't seem to care to even post a few recommendations and ignore that their product has some issues.
My wireless only works if I'm less then 10ft away from the access point, even though I have another laptop and a Compaq wireless NIC in it that works from 150+ feet away from my access point.
I have the same intermittent connection problems using an Inspiron 1100, Trumobile 1300 card and Linksys BEFW11S4 router. I can get a great signal far away on the 2nd floor, but also lose the signal when I'm 1 foot from the router.
I've called Tech Support 3 times--changed the channel, disabled bluetooth, updated the firmware and changed the rate...all to no avail.
I finally gave up today and returned the card while my 30 day satisfaction period was still in effect.
My 8600 does the same junk. Excellent signal but it drops the connection then u have to reconnect every 5-10 minutes. Upgraded the drivers and I get the same stuff. I thought it was power management shutting off the NIC but i disabled that and still have the same problem. I can't believe Dell isn't addressing this issue. There are gonna be a lot of unhappy people who get their laptop for xmas and goto hook it up into their wireless network and get nailed with this problemo.
I think I have solved the intermittent disconnection problem. I use an 1100 with Linksys 4 port router.
Sending my 1300 card back to Dell & buying a Linksys card is working out great for me. Although I've only had the card 2 days, it hasn't dropped the connection once!
The tech support guys gave me 1,000 solutions that did not help. I will always believe that there is a problem with the card. For that reason, I didn't want them to replace it. I agree with other people in this forum wondering why Dell doesn't seem to be responding.
I will post again if I start experiencing problems again, but for now it's looking good.

Did you get a Linksys 802.11g card? If so it has the same innards as the TM1300; not sure why one would work better than the other.
No. Mine is just the b card. Maybe it's the b/g technology causing a problem. I don't really know too many hardware answers. I just know that right now I'm out in the driveway and I'm not losing my connection.
yeah, i have the problem of dropping connection after random amounts of time, even when i'm in the same room as the AP... i'm on an 8200 w/ truemobile 1180 mini-pci card

Take a look at the posts on this thread: http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=insp_network&message.id=15032
Wish I had a solution as I'm experiencing what sounds like the same problem as you.

Isn't it possible to just take out the card and send it back for a new one?
Using the Intel 2100 btw.
Any help here Mods?

By the sound of these posts, I was having the same trouble....
The solution that worked for me was to Disable the Windows XP service "Wireless Zero Configuration".
This service was causing my wireless connection to drop out every time the service scanned for other networks to connect to. :(
Cheers, Mustang.

Start -> Control Panel -> Adminstrative Tools -> Services-> Wireless Zero Configuration
I tried this on my 8600/2300/1300 XP Pro setup awhile back and it didn't help.

I tried this method on my 8600, and so far it's working. I haven't lost my connection yet(knock on wood).
