Access denied over network
I would appreciate some help please.
I have 3 computers:
Desktop runnning XP
Laptop running XP
Desktop running Windows 7
Each has 2 or more HDDs and are connected by a router. Certain folders on the HDDs have been allocated as share folders. I have logged in with administrator rights on all 3 computers. Now....
From the Laptop I can see all the shared folders on both desktops.
From the Desktop Windows 7 I can see all the shared folders on the Laptop and the Windows XP desktop.
From the Windows XP Desktop I can see the shared folders on the Laptop.
However, when I try to access the shared folders on the Windows 7 system from the Windows XP Desktop the system reports "access denied".
I have tried disabling the wireless link between the Laptop and Router and connected them with a Cat5e cable just to confirm that I can still see the shared folders on the Windows 7 Desktop.
I have re-setup the sharing of the folders on the Windows 7 system giving them a different name. The laptop continues to work fine. The Windows XP desktop finds the shared folders on the Desktop XP system (with the new names) but still reports "access denied".
Can anyone give me some ideas as to what is wrong please?

Not sure which one will provide the information you need. The children don't want to share files and folders with dad, so I never tried the folder sharing.

Thanks Pudgyone for your suggestion. Sorry, I should have said in my original post (as I was aware of firewall restrictions) that I run NIS on all 3 computers and I had even tried to turn the firewall off between the Desktop XP and Desktop W7 systems. However, it made no difference. I will however, read the articles just in case (thank you for the pointers). Bear in mind that I can "see" the folders/partitions/disks on the W7 Desktop from the XP Laptop even with NIS enabled on both of them.

Sorry, I should have added that all the computers are on the same workgroup, that Windows firewall is turned off and that I can print from the Desktop XP system to the printer that is connected to the Windows 7 system. If it was not for the fact that the Laptop XP system can "see" (and modify) the files on the Windows 7 system then I would assume that I had inadvertantly set up something incorrectly on the Windows 7 sharing options. However, it is the Desktop XP system that cannot "see" the files on the Windows 7 system (yet it will print to the printer connected on that system and can "see" the files on the Laptop XP system).

It used to be that you would need a Rod Stocker Account on each computer and identical password for the file sharing to work. Not sure much about file sharing.

Thanks Rick. I only have Rod Stocker (with Administrator rights) on the Desktop Windows 7 and the Desktop XP system. The laptop has my wife as a named user but this Account is never used. We all use the same password.

Hi Pudgyone. Yes, I've tried it with Network Discovery on and off. I've got file sharing set to on obviously.
The confusing part is that the XP laptop can "see" the files. So the problem would appear to be more with the Desktop XP system rather than the Desktop Win 7 system.
