Actiontec modem in 8200

Hi all frustrated people,

I've had the same problems cited by many here with the Actiontec modem, WindowsXP in the 8200, since the spring when I first bought the computer.  I had found that when I have the laptop UNPLUGGED the modem works fine, when plugged in I can hardly get connected (error 678) and if it does connect it is at VERY slow speeds.  It clearly has something to do with this power source difference, since this is a consistent pattern.

I've tried everything.  Finally sent the computer back and just got it back and IT IS STILL ACTING THE SAME WAY.  I've have HAD IT!

I plan to call them back and try to get a card slot modem from them I can just plug in and go.  (I've tried a friends Xircom and it seems to work just fine.)  If not, I will try to get my money back for the whole laptop and SHOP ELSEWHERE.  (and by the way, tell all other faculty at the large University for which I work to shop elsewhere also.)

Angry person who's wasted a lot of time on this,

Berncinci
