rgilder,

Thanks for using the Dell Community Forum.

Can you tell us what software and hardware has been added to the system since you've purchased it?  Also, who is your ISP and how are you connecting to them?

I've added my Canon Multipass L6000 printer using XP drivers provided by Canon and dated 4-14-2003, and a Canon Canoscan 5000F flatbed scanner using the setup CD provided by Canon (Ver 1.02).  Also, software that came with the scanner.

Netscape 7.0 (I use IE 6 that came with the system but use Netscape's composer to develop web pages.

There is also a program to capture images from my Panasonic DV camera using the USB port.  Aldo on USB is a Lexar 128 MB "Jump Drive"

The ISP is midhudson online (www.mhonline.net) I'm connecting by dialup using the Conexant modem on a standard "pots" line.

After yet another crash, and an hour on the phone with another Dell Tech, I have removed the Conexant and installed an 8 year old 28.8 V.34 US Robotics Sportster Modem.  Time will tell.

If you ever plan to trouble shoot the Conextant modem take a look at the info here http://www.conexant.com/support/md_driverdownload.jsp

An update for anyone else with the same problem.  My current best guess is the Canon 5000F scanner.  Not the basic drivers, but the program that controls the scanner buttons.  Right now, the blue screen crashes seem to have stopped.  The scanner works, but I am not able to use the buttons.

Dell has been helpful (after some persistance on my part) by replacing motherboard, and modem.  Neither fixed the problem.

If this fails, or when I am certain that the problem is really solved, I'll post again.

After over 2 weeks with no crashes, I became satisfied that I had solved the problem.  I reinstalled Quicken 2000 on Jan 5.  On Jan. 6, the system crashed again for the first time since Dec 23rd.

Since the system crashed before with Quicken removed, I am still uncertain what the problem is.
