Bluetooth TrueMobile 300 Installation Problem on XP SP2 and XP SP1
I have an Inspiron 510m with XP SP2.
Trying to install the Dell Bluetooth drivers A05 (R82522) displays the following message:
Bluetooth radio is turned off. Press Fn+F2 to turn it on. Then click OK to continue installation.
Pressing Fn+F2 actually turns wireless off because it was already on.
Pressing Fn+F2 again reactivates wireless again.
Clicking on OK results in the same message:
Bluetooth radio is turned off. Press Fn+F2 to turn it on. Then click OK to continue installation.
The only way to exit this loop is to cancel the installation. Doing so shows the following message:
The Bluetooth device was not detected.
Microsoft says that XP SP2 has already built in Bluetooth support for the following Dell modules:
Dell TrueMobile Bluetooth Module USB\VID_413C&PID_8000
Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth Module= BthUsb USB\VID_413C&PID_8103
Is my TM 300 Bluetooth card included in the XP SP2 or do I need an extra driver?
I found the VID\PID of the Dell USB device:
Dell BC02 USB Device USB\VID_413C&PID_8010\5&1F727D18&0&2
This shows that XP SP 2 does not include the Dell Bluetooth card used on the Inspiron PC.
Could you send me the Dell USB driver for the native XP SP2 Bluetooth implementation?
What is the Dell strategy? Are you going to use the Microsoft built in Bluetooth support in XP SP2 or do still provide some third party drivers?
Will there be some conflicts with XP SP2? Did you test Bluetooth with XP SP2?
Please let me know how to get Bluetooth working.
Except Bluetooth all the other applications including wireless 802.11g are working great under XP SP2.
Using XP without any SP results in the same problem. It seems that the TM 300 hardware cannot be detected.
Fn+F2 never turns the blue Bluetooth LED on. I also noticed that the Bluetooth drivers are making some firmware upgrades. Probably something went wrong during such an upgrade and left the TM 300 in an undefined state.
For me it looks like a hardware or firmware problem in the TM 300 Bluetooth card.
The Dell test utilities delivered with the PC do not test the Bluetooth TM 300 hardware.
Could you provide a test utility to test the TM 300 hardware and to update the corrupted firmware?
Going into the revision A06 BIOS setting while booting and pressing F2 shows the following:
****Wireless Configuration ****
Onboard Bluetooth: Installed
Mini PCI Device: Wireless
Mini PCI Status: Enabled
Wireless Control: Fn+F2/Application
Wireless: On
The BIOS seems to detect the TM 300 Bluetooth hardware but the installation does not. The blue Bluetooth led is always off. It seems that TM 300 Bluetooth is based on USB. As the installation cannot detect the Hardware there could be an USB problem.
I decided to contact Dell Support
Dell Support suggested to reinstall Windows XP without SP's and stressed on the importance of the order the Dell drivers have to be installed.
For me the Software should be clever enough to install what is needed independent of the order. The importance of this order is also not mentioned in the manuals. This means that nearly nobody will install things correctly.
I also noticed that there is no uninstall for the Dell drivers. Nowadays any software has an uninstall program!!
There is also not enough documentation for the drivers explaining how to install things step by step.
Here is the order they have given to me:
XP without SP's
Dell Notebook System Software
Intel Mobile Chipset
Intel Extreme Graphics 855GM
Sigmatel Stac 9750
Intel Pro 100
Broadcom Modem V92
Dell TrueMobile 1300
Dell QuickSet
Dell TrueMobile 300
I tryed to install the following:
XP without SP's
Dell Notebook System Software A15, R77764
The first problem. I get the following message:
This computer does not support this operating system.
It seems that this driver needs already a SP. But I have to guess. No documentation!!
I tried to install an older version:
Dell Notebook System Software A08, R65557 (System Software)
I run into a problem. I get the following message:
Setup can not run on this machine.
It seems that this driver needs already a SP. But I have to guess. No documentation!!
I decided to install XP SP2
I tried again to install the following:
Dell Notebook System Software A15, R77764 (System Software)
This time it worked!!
I continue installing the following:
Intel Mobile Chipset A06, R58370 (Chipset)
Intel Extrem Graphic 855GM A06, R69042 (Video)
Sigmatel Stac 9750 A12, S5wua12i, R78742 (Audio)
Intel Pro 100 A03, R73204 (LAN)
Broadcom Modem V92 A02, R66674 (Modem)
Dell TrueMobile 1300 A03, R76517rw, R76517 (Wireless European Version)
Dell QuickSet A11, R75074 (Needed for Fn+F2)
Dell True Mobile 300 A05, R82522 (Bluetooth)
I run into the same problem:
Bluetooth radio is turned off. Press Fn+F2 to turn it on. Then click OK to continue installation.
Looking into Device Manager I see a problem with USB 2.0. There is no USB Enhanced Controller needed for USB 2.0. Strange because XP SP 2 has support for USB 2.0. I mention this because TM 300 Bluetooth is also based on USB.
I could fix the USB 2.0 problem downloading the USB 2.0 drivers from Intel. But at this time the Dell drivers should have installed USB 2.0. Strange behaviour!! I do not feel very comfortable with the Dell drivers.
I'm trying to give it another try:
Dell True Mobile 300 A05, R82522 (Bluetooth)
I run into the same problem:
Bluetooth radio is turned off. Press Fn+F2 to turn it on. Then click OK to continue installation.
I tryed to install the following:
XP SP1
Dell Notebook System Software A08, R65557 (System Software)
It worked this time.
Intel Mobile Chipset A06, R58370 (Chipset)
Intel Extrem Graphic 855GM A06, R69042 (Video)
Sigmatel Stac 9750 A12, S5wua12i, R78742 (Audio)
Intel Pro 100 A03, R73204 (LAN)
Broadcom Modem V92 A02, R66674 (Modem)
Dell TrueMobile 1300 A03, R76517rw, R76517 (Wireless European Version)
Dell QuickSet A11, R75074 (Needed for Fn+F2)
Dell True Mobile 300 A05, R82522 (Bluetooth)
I run into the same problem:
Bluetooth radio is turned off. Press Fn+F2 to turn it on. Then click OK to continue installation.
I try to run an older version
Dell True Mobile 300 A02, R65891 (Bluetooth)
The installation starts installing Dell Bluetooth Software. I click OK on the Driver Signature Notice. Installation removes previous Bluetooth installations. Installation makes firmware upgrade and installs Bluetooth kernel.
Activating the radios with Fn+F2 shows in Device Manager under Bluetooth Devices an !USB Device entry.
Deactivating the radios with Fn+F2 lets disappear the Bluetooth Devices with the !USB Device entry.
I activate the radios with Fn+F2 again.
Right clicking on !USB Device and selecting Update Driver displays the Hardware Update Wizard. I select:
Install the software automatically (Recommended) and click on the Next button.
I run into a problem. A window displays the following:
Cannot Install this Hardware. There was a problem installing this Hardware: USB Device
An error occured during the installation of the device. A service installation section in this INF is invalid.
Click finish to close the wizard.
I click on Finish.
This Bluetooth installation really drives me nuts. Depending on the driver versions the behaviour changes very much.
It seems to be a Bluetooth USB driver Problem.
I also noticed that the drivers are not Microsoft certified.
I need a tested procedure how to install Bluetooth on:
Windows XP SP1
Windows XP SP2
Please explain things step by step and specify all driver versions and the exact order how to install things successfuly. The Dell Bluetooth installation is a real pain. There is no documentation how to install things correctly!! There are also too many driver versions giving too many combinations. Please test things and be very specific on your advise. I have to say that Dell builds excellent PC's but with Bluetooth you really messed things up. It is not fair to let the customers find out how to get Bluetooth working. This is the job of the vendor!
I sent my Inspiron to Dell for repair and they changed the TM300 Bluetooth card. Now the blue LED turns on and off while pressing Fn+F2 .
Installing the Dell Bluetooth drivers A05 (R82522) worked this time and I was able to synchronize my SonyEricson T630 mobile phone with Outlook 2003.
However there is still a problem.
In Control Panel I see the XPSP2 Bluetooth Devices and the Dell Bluetooth Configuration Icon. This is an indaction that the Dell Bluetooth driver still conflicts with native Bluetooth from XPSP2.
Go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services
Change Bluetooth Support Service from Automatic to Disabled. This will remove XPSP2 Bluetooth Devices icon in Control Panel.
Dell, it would be nice to get a better XPSP2 integration for Bluetooth.

Ditto,
Nice one dell, Fresh out of the box this evening, with the default install of windows xp, the bluetooth light is on,
But since dell include a lot of things preinstalled that i dont want, first step, get the dell o/s recover disc
and reinstall XP,
Blue tooth light turned off at reboot, never been lit again since.
The "resource cd" application still detects the hardware, but just like you, "press fn+f2" to enable bluetooth radio,
Dell, what is going on?

Hi All,
Follow the steps below
STEP 1: RENAME BTH.INF
Click Start|Search|Tools|Folder Options
Click View tab
Select "Show Hidden Files and Folders" and UNCHECK "Hide Extensions for known File Types" and "Hide Protected Operating System Files"
Click Apply and OK
Now search for "ALL FILES AND FOLDERS" and search for "BTH.INF"
Right-click on this file and click Rename. Rename this file to "BTH.BAK"
STEP 2: DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL THE LATEST BLUETOOTH DRIVERS
Visit http://support.dell.com and download the latest upgrade file for TM300: R82522.EXE
Double-click on the file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.
Restart the computer.
STEP 3: UPDATE DRIVER
Open the Bluetooth Card Properties from Device manager (Found under category "BLUETOOTH RADIOS" for WinXP SP2)
Click the Driver Tab and click "UPDATE DRIVER".
Specify the following path to upgrade the latest driver -
C:\dell\Drivers\R82522\301804-d\svcpack
These steps should resolve the problem.
Rgds

I've invested some time into this matter, and found out following:
1.) The problem is in software and NOT driver. That buggy Widcomm (now Broadcom) BTW v3 software doesn't seem to recognize truemobile card, and therefore giving out bogus messages like type "..Fn+F2 to turn on Bluetooth.." In fact Broadcom released v4 with a bunch of new features (whistles and bells), but I suggest you don't bother.
2.) Windoze XP SP2 has built-in driver for Truemobile 300 + similar application to BTW, so what you need to do is uninstall BTW and just "Scan for hardware changes" and windows will install it automatically. BT will be working and you can use it straight away for sending/receiving files via BT, using network connection, using remote control with your Mobile, use dial-up networking through your mobile, use BT headphones...
The only feature that misses is synchronization with mobile, but that application you better get from your mobile website (Nokia, Sony-Erricsson..), and don't bother with BTW synchronization as it was giving me a headache, not wanting to sync my mobile as I wanted.
3.) The side effect is that BT led won't go ON, which I assume is somehow connected to BTW software, so we can only wait for the mercy from DELL.
4.) I must say that DELL's response on this matter is really crapppy ( I can’t believe they censored word crapy with double p)
Hope this helps
Spread the word
Regards, d.
btw:, BEST-TRY, your suggestions didn't work, it did however eliminate m$ driver, but the problem is in BTW software not driver, so to enable m$ again one needs to rename BTH.BAK to BTH.INF (if he/she didn't delete it of course;) + you made an error about location of dell driver (C:\dell\Drivers\R82522\301804-d\svcpack) no driver info in svcpack folder you have to go 1 up, but thanks for help anyway
