Broadcom Internal Wireless Card Driver Needed

Hello,

My Dell Inspiron 531 came with an internal wireless card. The chip on that card is made by Broadcom and has a number on it that is "BCM4318KFBG". I am trying to find a driver for this device that is compatible with Windows XP. My computer came stock with Vista, but Vista blows, so I reformatted and installed a fresh copy of Windows XP Professional. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Most of the dell TrueMobile driver packs will probably work.  There are some slight differences though, and it would be helpful to know exactly which dell card you have installed (as dell does not list models by chipset).

click the original system configuration tab.

Enter your service tag.

Find which wireless card you have (usually dell true mobile xxxx or dell TM xxxx) and post it back here.  I'll then link you to the drivers.

Although the card says Broadcom, the drivers is by Asus and you can get the XP or Vista drivers at:

I just got my Inspiron 531 desktop about 10 days ago. It's running Vista. The biggest problem I had was the Broadcom Internal WL-138g V2 card wouldn't connect properly to the wireless router. When it did it was too slow. Anyhow, the problem was there since February 2007. You can read it on another posting called "New desktop, wireless doesn't work" by yogaman28734. Looks like Dell didn't bother to install the proper wireless driver for this card 8 months on!

I spent one hour on the phone with tech support and they weren't knowledgeable about the problem, wanting to go through the usual trouble-shooting. I ended up giving them the solution from this FORUM!

Good luck running it on XP Pro.
