Hi
I installed Redhat Linux 9 for first time, ever :)
I am unable to hook up onto the internet, as it is not detecting the modem. Mine is Broadcom v.92 56k in dell inspiron 8600.
Would someone help?

Hi there,

I have an Inspiron 1150 with the same modem, and I was also unable to get the modem working.

I heard that the newer version of RedHat, now called Fedora Core (up to version 3) had better hardware support and detection so I installed that... no joy!

I did, however, find a great resource site for those of us who would wish to do such things...

http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/dell.html

There are many users there who have succeeded where we have so far failed... I had hoped that some Dell support person knew a little to point us in the right direction, but given that your post was months ago with no response, I guess they are conspicuous by their absence.

Good luck!

Another place to try is the Software - Linux (non-Dell installed) forum.
