Broadcom wireless utility, enabling softAP

I have a new gaming system that uses wireless to connect to the internet. My current situation does not allow me to use a router or direct ethernet connection to the game system. I am currently connected to the internet via a wired LAN connection. I discovered that it is possible to create a "software access point" (softAP) which would allow my gaming system to connect to the internet through my laptop. Broadcom offers a way to alter their utility registry and enable softAP functionality. I have altered everything and the only remaining problem is for the utility to recognize that softAP is enabled. Does anyone know how to enable it???
