Can Not Start Internet Connection Sharing Service (ICS)
I am running WindowsXP. In Control Panel-Network Connections is blank. Previously it showed my Dial-up Connection and LAN Connection with the status of each. When I try to open Network Connections a window appears, "Network Connections Folder was unable to retrieve list of Network Adapters on your machine. Make sure Network Connections Service is enabled and running.
To start this Service, I went to Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Services(local)-Network Connections. When I attempted to start the Service, got Error Message 193:oxc1 - "Could not start Service on local computer.
Windows Firewall is disabled also. In Control Panel-Windows Firewall, when I attempt to turn it on, I get a window - "Windows Firewall Settings cannot be displayed because associated service is not running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Service? (YES) Window appears - "Wincows can not start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing Service.
I found this condition described on a UK Site, Rhebus Network. It recommended running the program REGSVR32.EXE to reregister all DLL and OCX files in the System Registry to correct the problem. Did this but with no success.
Does anyone know what I can do to turn on Internet Connection Sharing Service?
It was suggested in the WindowsXP Forum that VOLCANO 11 in this Forum would be a good candidate to help.

Since you have tried some of the things I would have suggested, you might consider doing a repair installation of Windows and see if that corrects the problem. See the following:
