Can't acquire IP address DSL

I have a Dell Demension 3000 running XP Home Edition, I had to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the operating system.
My computer now cannot acquire the DSL IP address ( it shows all zeros), I have run the repair network utility in Control Panel which fails and through the command line run ipconfig/renew command and get the error message; Windows IPConfiguration ," An error occured while renewing interface area local connection
; the RPC server is unavailable".

the int ip reset log.txt reads;
initialization function InithelperDLL in IPMONTR.DLL failed to start with error code 10107

Does anyone know how to repair this?

Thank you!

Look in the Device Manager and see if the card proeprly installed.

Driver Installation:
http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/en/document?c=us&cs=19&docid=1A0C0937D62A8739E0401E0A55174744&journalid=4F1F82483DC811DBAE564F9328EE04A4&l=en&s=gen

To find and download the drivers for your system, scroll down the page on click on
"Drivers and Downloads". Then enter your Service Tag or model number of your computer.
Select your operating system and then download the drivers that you need.

Let's reset the TCP stack:

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.

For these commands,

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults:

netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults.

netsh int ip reset reset.log
Reboot the machine.

The second link is for modems, I am (attempting) using DSL not dialup.

Under Control Panel/Administrator/Device Manager/Computer Management/Intel(R) Pro 100VE Network Adapter "this device is working properly" message is displayed.

I ran into this same problem during my initial setup of DSL last year but I can't remember the fix .

Thanks,

I intered command; netsh winsock reset catalog

the following error appeared again ;

initialization function InithelperDLL in IPMONTR.DLL failed to start with error code 10107

Just as it did with the ipconfig/renew command

Thanks,

Run Winsock fix and see if this helps:

If not, you may be looking at some spyware issues.

Winsockxpfix did the trick..... this computer is now online again!
I'll have to keep that utility around.
