Cannot connect to network Internet connection works

Question

I have a new Inspiron 9100.  Out of the box I set up the network connections as I always have and until now I have been successful with my knowledge.  I can connect to the internet but I cannot see my network at home or at the office.   Dell was of no help except to tell me erase my drive and start over.

Tjoshua, If XP Service Pack 2 is installed, you'll need to make an exception to the firewall rules for File and Printer Sharing. Jim

An incorrect setting on Norton Internet Security had me crazy for several weeks trying to network my I9100.  If nothing at all shows up in My Network Places.......you might have a firewall problem.  You might disable all firewalls until you get the network to connect.  Of course, make sure you have enabled file and printer sharing and you have shared files on both computers.  Hope this helps!
