Cannot connect to wireless home network after Netgear Firmware Update
This is a new laptop purchased via QVC. It has a Dell 1704 wireless adapter and Windows 8.1
When initially setup I was able to connect to the router. I updated the router firmware to address a frequent need to restart the router and DSL modem after losing wifi connectivity.
All other devices - laptops, TVs, smartphones, thermostats, etc., connected right up w/o flinching. But when I got on the AMD Win8.1 M531R laptop there was an asterisk next to the signal strength bar.
I have tried forgetting the network and connecting but still get cannot connect. Using WPA2 Personal AES security.
System purchased in December 2013 and it appears to have most recent drivers installed,
No parameter changes made to router. It is a WGT624v3 router.

jacquelinehiller,
Did you setup the router correctly?
Are you using a different SSID?
Did you power cycle the ISP modem/router and the wireless router, after they were setup?

I have a Dell M531R laptop from QVC that initially worked with my Netgear router as do all other wireless devices in my home. Its running Win 8.1
I have just updated the firmware in the Netgear WGT624 router and now I cannot connect to the router using WPA2 security. All other devices didnt flinch when I did the firmware change.
Netgear couldnt find anything other than the adapter goes disabled during connection and then you get the connection failure. No parameter changes were made to router, just firmware.

I kept the same ssid/passphrase and all devices connected OK. Dell was on laptop for 4 hours and couldnt fix issue.
Just bought a new router(was planning on switching to dual band) to see what happens.

jacquelinehiller,
Can you run Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID and REGISTERED OWNER and post the information back here.
Start, control panel, network and sharing center, manage wireless networks. Remove the problem network, then try to connect like it is a new connection. Since you kept the same SSID, the adapter is trying to find the router with the same mac address and cannot find it, so it won't connect.
Start, all programs, accessories, right click on command prompt, left click run as administrator. Type
netsh winsock reset catalog
This will reset the winsock catalog
Then restart the computer.
