Cannot download word or excel attachments from emails

All of a sudden, I am not been able to download word or excel attachments from emails yet I can still download pdf attachments.  I've tried upgrading my Internet Explorer to version 7.0 and have run my Dell computer scan but am getting nowhere.  Can anyone help?  Thanks.

What email program are you using?

I am using yahoo but I think it's an issue with my laptop specifically because when I log into my email on other computers' I am able to download all attachments.

When you go to save them what happens?

Does the save window come up?

Do they save but you can't open them?

The save box comes up showing files moving from one folder to another - but the temporary folder info and file transfer details never come up and it just sits like that forever.
