Canon Imageclass 2300N problems with scanning in Server 2003 Environment
Whoever buys the Imageclass 2300N - and most likely many other canon printers - will find out what I did - it will probably not send scanned documents out over the internet if your ISP requires smtp authentification. The bummer is that if you have this issue - and I did - it will not work within your local network either.
I hated this machine for 4 days - now it works fine and I have to say that I love it. It copies just as well as a much more expensive copier I had been leasing - and also allows network printing and network scanning which we did not have the capability to do before.
When I think about how much I was paying for my last copier I am almost giddy over my decision to buy this for our law firm. I was worried it might not be sufficient for our needs but It is working quite well.
The cure to the issue over the scanning - you need to set up an FTP Server on the server to send the scanned documents to a folder on the network - which you can customize for each employee. I could not get the FTP server in IIS to work so I bought a utility FTP online which was a bit pricey at $450 but is working flawlessly.
Canon support - not too good on this one (they referred me to Google to look for a solution - no joke) but if anyone wants further details on this let me know - I wish I knew a few days ago what I know now about getting this thing up and running.
