DI-614+

Question

Does anyone have a dlink DI-614+ (rev A) router?  I have this model (firmware 2.33) and have consistently bad throughput with wireless devices.  My cable connection is rated at 4mbps.  With a wired connection, most bandwidth testers rate my connection at 3.7.  With wireless, this drops to around 1.4 (best I've seen is 1.6).   I have tried this with the following pcmcia wireless clients:  1) a dlink DWL-650(rev P), 2) a SMC SMC-2635W, and 3) a linksys WPC11 (rev 3).  The speed is the same regardless of card and computer tested.  All of these cards are typical 802.11b cards -- all are new enough to support WPA.  All computers were tested individually -- no other clients were broadcasting at the time.  All cards have the newest drivers avialable.   Netstumbler shows no other wireless networks in range, and while SSID could be disabled, there's a decent amount of distance between the nearest houses.  Phones are on the 900mhz band.  Enabling WEP makes little difference in observed speeds.  I almost never experiance dropped connections.   This speed seems unreasonably low, espeically given that the DI-614+'s TI chipset boasted a 20% actual speed increase when used with standard 802.11b equipment.  Does anyone know how to increase speeds?  Is anyone getting higher actual speeds with this router?  If so, what firmware and settings are you using?  [note, I can't use the 4x mode that was enabled on later firmwares as my other products do not support it]

I have the 614+ (A) and 2mb cable, and I get about 1.6/1.7 or so throughput, but that is pretty consistient whether wired or wireless. You should see about the same wired or wireless. I don't know the firmware I use, I will check when I get home. I know it is not the latest, but don't remember which, possibly 2.20. The 614+ will not support WPA.

I forgot to check when I went home for supper, really sorry.  I will look in the morning.  Don't disparage 'b' - that is 11mb max while internet connections are 2-4mb max.

I am running version 2.18 - 2.20 had issues and I haven't kept up to know if 2.30 or 2.33 have any.  The dslreports forum I pointed to would be a good search for that - also there is a Dlink employee who posts there.  2.18 is very stable, at least for me.  I use 256 keys, MAC filtering, limited DHCP range, WAN ping answer off, etc. Message Edited by johnallg on 03-21-2005 10:15 PM
