Dell 4700 not recognizing Linksys PCI B Adapter

I just purchased a 4700 and transferred a working Linksys WMP11 PCI card to it but the 4700 will not recognize it.

The card lights up, but is not discovered by the New Hardware Wizard.

When I purchased the system I mistakenly ordered a true mobile "G" USB adapter (wanted a PCI) so I decided to keep in the box and use the PCI card.

There were drivers installed in XP SP2 but I uninstalled an ran the command line TCP IP network reset utility referred to elsewhere on this board.

I have the built in 10/100 ethernet card working fine but really prefer wireless so I dont have a cable running across the floor

Help is appreciated.

Greetings,

I am having the same issue with a Netgear MA111.  Works fine in my Dell Latitude (XP only) but crashes my Dimension 4700C (XPSP2).  I found the reason on the Netgear Support Page.  This is a good solution for those that don't have SP2 preloaded on their machine, which I am not one.

I have written to NetGear for the firmware upgrade.  I have a feeling that will be a long and arduous process. :smileysad:

You may find the same info for your Lynksis at techsupportforum.com.  That is where I found me solution for the NetGear issue.

Cheers,

kmraj

I really am not sure what to do since Netgear has new drivers and Linksys does not.

Hello out there.... does Dell acknowledge there is a problem with PCI wireless adapters in the 4700?

What wireless adapters does Dell recommend?  I am willing to purchase another.
