Dell Latitude - wireless internet speed

Dear Sir or Madam,

I have a DELL Latitude E5530 (Windows7) laptop and I am not satisfied with the wireless internet speed.

My internet package is 100 Mbps. According to the speed test, the download speed is 22.04 Mbps, the upload speed is 9.18 Mbps. As you can see, the download speed is extremely low.

I phoned the internet provider and the representative of the company said that they provided 100 Mbps.

Maybe my laptop doesn't work appropriately.

Could you help me, please?

Hi,

Unfortunately there are a lot of factors that go into wireless connectivity and speeds.  Many of them are outside your control.  There are some things you can do to try to improve your connection speed.  I'm sure that your ISP does provide 100 Mbps speeds, but those tend to be based on wired network connections or perfect environments and surroundings.  In practice it's very, very difficult to get full speeds out of wireless networks.

You may also want to check out Dell's Networking & Wireless Support Center.  That has a ton of good information as well.

Try some of the suggestions in that second link I provided, and you may also want to google to find more.  Interference from other electronics, other wireless networks, heck even household plants can hinder wireless connections.  Try changing the channel you're connecting on, and try to find which one provides better speeds.   Don't forget to check environmental factors, and depending on your card and router see if you can switch to a 5.0 GHz band.  That tends to be more clear and provides better connections.

Sorry I couldn't be more specific but everyone's wireless connection, environment, and speed is particular to their situation, so the best option is to try all the different variables you can to find out which combination works best for you.

Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll see if I can help.

Todd
