BIG thanks tom-wk for posting the solution to this problem.

After a month of frustration with my DMBCU not working (I use this when "on the road", but other wireless broadband at home and a LAN when in HQ), I finally found this thread. Applied the recommended fix - and wham! - it worked for me too!!:smileyvery-happy:

No idea either what MeadeCo Zeepe is or does, or how those Add-ons became disabled? But referencing an earlier post - it could have been when installing a Bluetooth connection to a mobile phone (sorry: "cell phone" to those who don't speak English English!)?? Or maybe not?? Possibly just co-incidence the DMBCU ceased loading soon after the Bluetooth stuff went in??

When I went to the IE Add-ons list as directed, I noticed around half of the MeadeCo Zeepe items were disabled, and half still enabled.  Foolishly - in my frustration - I did not note which were the disabled ones, or try enabling them one at a time to see which worked!  If it happens again (hope not!) I'll be sure to do that though - then come back and post here.

Thanks again tom-wk. You've made many people less frustrated with their DMBCU!  Dell owe you a reward?

I just have to say...You ROCK Tom!!! :emotion-21: That did it for me too!  I cannot express how grateful I am!  I personally disabled those Add-Ons in IE because they looked suspicious and spyware-ish.  I would have never guessed they had anything to do with my internet.  That 9999 error me off to no end.  When I went to the Dell Support site to email for support it said my warranty had expired and I've only had my laptop for seven months!!  I even chose the 2-year extended warranty!!  I'll have to print this solution for when I get worked up and start disabling IE add-ons in the future lol.  I couldn't even cancel my VerizonWireless Broadband service while I sorted this out because I still have another seventeen months on my 2-year contract.  I have this major love-hate relationship with computers and the people who make them.  I love computers but I hate the people who make them :emotion-5:

Thanks again for all your great detective work!

I wish I could say I had the same luck, still getting the 9999 error.  The add-ons were already enabled, I disabled the add-ons and re-enabled.

No luck with my D620 XP2.

The laptop initially had IE6 on it, I upgraded to 7.  Unfortunately, I didn’t check the plugins with IE6 before upgrading.  I ended up re-imaging the laptop as the end user needed it in a hurry.  We've seen this error before so I'm sure we'll see it again.

Are you using IE8?  If so, uninstall IE8 and go back to IE7.  This worked for me.

Thanks for the latest comments. I've just deleted IE8 and my Lattitude D420 is back and 3G enabled.

Unfortunately this did not solve the problem for me either. All the Zeepe extensions were active and I'm on IE7.

I've tried reinstalling IE and the Mobile Broadband drivers with no success.

Dell support's only suggestion is to completely restore the machine, a step I'm not willing to try at this point.

Hi there,

I had the same issue, and all the Zeepe's were enabled. I finally found a solution that works... at least for Sprint users...

1) Uninstall DMBCU (Dell Mobile Broadband Card Utility)

2) Install IE 8, Office Live 1.3, Live Meeting 2007, etc. - basically anything that used to cause DMBCU to fail

3) Reboot, run Windows Update to ensure nothing else for the items in step 2 is needed (i.e. - you are 100% up to date)

4) Go to this link... http://www.nextel.com/en/software_downloads/mobile_broadband/novatel_merlin_s720.shtml ... and install the 4th item, or which ever one is titled "Novatel Connection Manager for Windows". Do NOT install the one that says Sprint Smart View... this did not work for me, and when uninstalling it, cause all my internet (even WiFi) to break, forcing me to do a system restore and start all over again with step 1 above.

After installing, run the Sprint Connection Manager icon that will be on your desktop and after initializing, click GO to connect. Viola! In essence, what we just did is replace the Dell DMBCU with a Sprint equivalent. Works like a champ!

I hope this helps, and for those not with Sprint, that it gives you some more ideas to get going... I depend on my BB connection nearly 24/7!!!

Regards.... Robert

Thank you so much for this solution !!!!!!

I am really wondering how an Internet Explorer Addon is related to the DELL Software.
This makes no sense at all !

However my error message was: MobiLink unknown application error 280

Thanks again !

I still have the same problem. I am on Vista Home pre Sp2 with IE7 ( downgraded from IE8), Bluetooth disbaled, ZIPPY Addoons in IE enabled.

My solution was to use . mwconn http://mwconn.m.i24.cc/english.html. A complete freeware . No install , no registry changes. Standalone utility with tiny memory footprint. The only problem is U have to read manual to get it working specially the com ports for Novatel cards . For other cards it works like a charm

DMBCU still crashes - information as below

I also had the problem with DMBCU crashing when trying to load the Dell mobile broadband card utility. I had checked IE and none of the MeadCo Zeepe Add-ons were disabled. After some testing I found it to be a problem with the Zeepe Framework software. To check if it is working run C:\Program Files\Common Files\Zeepe Framework 7\Zeepe711.exe. This should open a new window which should be your IE home page. Although if you are not connected to the internet you will get an error message shown in the window of "This program cannot display the webpage". On my Latitude XT when running Zeepe711.exe this was causing the program to crash indicating that the Zeepe software was not working. To cure this I uninstalled the Dell mobile broadband software. Then went through the registry and deleting all keys that had refernences to Meadco and Zeepe. I then reinstalled the Dell mobile broadband software and found that Zeepe711.exe worked. The Dell software would now also load without DMBCU.exe crashing.

If all else fails and you are using Vodafone I found that installing the Vodafone Mobile Connect software instead of the Dell software will get the mobile broadband working. Although you may need the drivers from the Dell software.

thanks very much for this reply it fixed my inspiron 1525 when you said that i have remebered that i have disabled the meadco zeeps on add ons in IE

after it the utility never worked after i activated them it works very well.

i have relized any way before that even the program did not work you can still do diagonistic test through the programm folder from programm files and it shows that softwear and hardwear all works well so meadco zeepe are resposible for the programm license if you disable you have no license to use the programm thats it

thats happens always with the broad band card i have asked dell about it no answer the only way to get it active

just go to devices and look in usb devices you will find unnamed device or unknowen device just deinstall it while the broadband card works through usb connection  after you have deleted the unnamed device under usb just turn your computer off unplug it and take the battery off get the sim card out clean the slots well push the card in it is place well then after it plug your computer again and istall the battery and turn it on..

it well work well and the device will appear on it is place and the unknowen usb device will not appear .

by the way sometimes you need to restart your computer many times until the device get activated and appear on the system if the device doesnt appear the systray of the utility will not appear on startup line .

hope this help you
