Dell TM 2300 connection with ADSL modem

Just bought a Belkin F5D5730 ADSL modem that I'm trying to connect to my 2300 router to share and access internet from 2 computers.

I connect the ADSL modem directly to my computer, enters all the configuration settings - UN/PWD etc - and voila i have internet.

I disconnect the modem from my computer and connects it into my 2300 - Internet port - and restart both machines. I can connect to the router through wireless without any problems- however under device status the router can't establish a "Internet connection" - says internet inactive. (If i then unplug the modem from the router (Ethernet BTW) - and connect it to my computer- i automatically connect to the internet.

Any ideas why my router fails to connect to the internet?

Thx
Klas

Other information
2300 is set to factory settings - Cable Modem. I have disabled all firewalls and have no other TCP/IP programs running.

Not familiar with your modem, but most likely because it is already acting as an Internet Gateway (since you said you had access to the Internet automatically) when your router tries to be one at the same time.

Have you tried resetting the network when you switch the connection between the modem and the router?  To do this turn everything off, then power up the modem followed by the device that is connecting directly to the modem (either the computer or the router), then powering up any other computers (if connecting to the router).   Have you set up the router to make the PPPoE connection for your (right now your computer is problably making the connection, when connected throught the router, the router has to make the connection)?

Thanks both of you for your reply- i have tried both of your suggestions plus another 6h over the last 6days to get this working....

"Luckilly" my modem stopped working yesterday, so i got this replaced today by the vendor and at the same time i upgraded to a "one-in-a-box" ADSL and Wireless router as this seems to be much simpler at the end of the day...

Thx for your quick response anyhow and have a good day.

Cheers

Klas
