Win2K always shows 16 asterisks in the password box, regardless of the password length, as an added security measure so that someone looking over your shoulder cannot guess the length of your password. The correct password is recorded and used by the dial-up connection. Have you tried using this "wrong password" to see if the connection will still be made?
