E1405 Wireless Connection Problems

I have a brand new Dell Inspiron E1405 Notebook computer that I cannot get to establish a wireless connection.  In the lower right tray under "wireless connections" it shows "one or more connections are available". However, when you click to see available networks it states: "Windows cannot configure this wireless connection.  If you have enabled another program to manage this wireless connection, use that software. I have a NETGEAR router (secured) and several other systems connected to it.  I’ve never had a problem before with either a desktop or notebook system. This computer detects the wireless network and shows a strong signal however there is no IP Address. Additionally, I tried using a USB wireless adapter.  Although it also detected the network, it still won't connect. When I got to Run and type in CMD and then ipconfig/iprelease it shows media disconnected. I appreciate any assistance.

Also, when I looked at the Dell online troubleshooting, the following was listed.  Unfortunately when I follow these procedures, I do not get the "Wireless Connections Tab in #5.

2. Connect to a Wireless Network Using Windows® XP

NOTE NOTE:Your wireless network card requires proper software and drivers before it can connect to a network. This software is pre-installed from the factory on your Dell computer. In the event that this software has been removed or corrupted, consult your wireless network card user''s guide for installation instructions.
  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Switch to Classic View.

  2. Double-Click Network Connections.

  3. Click to select Wireless Network Connection.
The Wireless Network Connection icon is highlighted.

  4. Under Network Tasks in the left-side pane, click Change settings of this connection.
The Wireless Network Connection Properties window appears.

  5. Click the Wireless Networks tab.

Which wireless adapter is it using?

Check and make sure Wireless Zero Configuration is the default client to manage your wireless networks and not the client software bundled installed with the adapter.

The wireless adapter is: Dell Wireless 1390 Mini Card (802.11b/g, 54Mbps) I've gone into the configuration for the wireless card and ensured the WZC setting was enabled. Does that make it the default client?

had my e1505 w/3945 wireless card for a couple of months. (1)connects, then disconnects-shows good signal quality/strength
(2)shows signal quality/strength but not webpage comes up, as if there was not connection at all
(3)pages load very slow
(4) works very well sometimes
windows is not managing the wireless card. broadcom manages it, it came with the laptop. any help would be nice.

Penate1972 - I have the same problem as well.  I have only had mine for three days and it's been very frustrating to try to check for updates on various websites as the connection would be fine for a while and then go out.  I also have experienced times of the day (usually VERY LATE at night) when the connection was good and fast.  I wonder if it is my router?  I have an older model Linksys and wonder if that could be an issue?

For what it is worth - I would upgrade your router if you have an older one.  I replaced my router and have had no problems since.  Someone on here said that it is because the 1505 is so new, the router has to have the very latest firmware and some of the older ones don't.  Hence, the problems.
