Ethernet controller driver not to be found !!

Hi,

I installed Windows XP Pro on my Inspiron5150 and I have not been able to figure out how to make it work on cable Internet connection using the RJ45 connector. Since in the hardware devices wizard it says that the Ethernet controller in not installed properly. I tried to look for it in the Drivers Installation disk provided with the system with no luck. It is also not found in c:\windows\system32\drivers directory. So please advice me how to make it work ? where to find the driver appropriate for my system ?

Thanx!

It should be on your Dell Accessories Disk or one named Utilities and Drivers, or something to that effect.  What network adapter do you have?

I have the same problem. The driver for the Truemobile 1300 mini PCI card only finds the wireless connection. I need my ethernet port to finish my install! No where else on the setup disk does it mention an alternate driver.

I have the same problem too. My system is an Inspiron 8600 and I can't install the driver for my Ethernet controller (a Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller). There's no driver on the Dell Drivers and Utilities CD. I have found one on the Dell site but it still doesn't work properly. So what to do ?

The drivers are contained within a program on the Applications CD.  Take a look at this link.  I always like to create a drivers folder with easy to remember names like:

C:\drivers\network or C:\drivers\video   The Numeric naming that Dell uses is of little value and is hard to remember what is what.  Look at this link and see if this helps:

Thank you for helping but my problem is quite different and is related to a Broadcom 440x 10/100 Ethernet Controller on an Inspiron 8600. I can't make it work properly under Windows XP Home SP1a. The OS says the drivers are not installed even after I have done it (with the R61603.EXE file, downloaded from Dell site).

YES ! Don't ask me why but after several attempts, the installation worked properlly and my ethernet card is now recognized by my OS and works properly.

Sorry for having disturbed and hope you'll all soon find solutions to your problems !

PS : I'm surprised though that the drivers provided with the machine aren't appropriate or simply miss.

Have you tried uninstalling the card and then re-installing the card?  This is the file I found.  Are you by chnace trying to use the 64 bit driver?
