Ethernet to USB for Wireless Router
Just a quick note: I have found a adapter that will change my ethernet connection to USB from Compusa. The cost is 29.99 special order. If any one has this problem, contact Daniel Fischbeck @ daniel_fischbeck@compusa.com.

my reading of that would suggest that it does what nearly all USB to ethernet products do: namely turn a USB port into an ethernet connection. I would not try that between two pieces of hardware (modem and router for instance) and I would not try to turn my computer's ethernet connection into a USB port, cause it ain't going to work.

There is NO WAY and ethernet port can be converted to USB.
Like Nemesis said that product only works for turning a USB into and ethernet.
The USB port has many uses when it comes to hardware so there wouldnt be any problem detecting a ethernet port. But how can the ethernet detect a USB port? It just CAN'T.

there may be routers out there that will accept a USB connection -- there may also be proprietary parts that will work ... the product that you show however, I do not think will work.
Another option would be to use a computer as a router -- assuming you are trying to share internet between more than one computer

What I need to know is this: If I do not have an ethernet port on my modem and have one on my laptop, then this means since my ISP does not have a modems with ethernet ports, does it mean that I can't have a wireless network?
I am desperately trying to get some answers. I have no knowledge of the subject, but I am opened to suggestions. I don't think I will be getting the adapter from compusa. I woulld be really upset if my brand new laptop was fried.

If you have a computer that can connect to the modem through USB then you can connect this computer through its ethernet adapter to a wireless access point or wireless router running in access point mode so that the notebook can run wirelessly on through the access point and the wired computer. The wired computer would then have to be running Windows' built-in Internet Connection Sharing. Note that wireless access points are more expensive than wireless routers, so you might as well get the wireless router. But again, the wireless router will have to be put into Access Point Mode.

The ideal solution would still be to get a modem that can connect with ethernet. Internet Connection Sharing is less reliable and requires that the computer that is connected to the modem be powered on when the other computers want internet access. Is you satellite connection a two way connection, or does it also require a dialup connection. If it is not a two way connection then it is more complicated and outside of any experience I have.
If is a two way connection, then you would connect the desktop to the modem through the USB connection. You would connect the ethernet port on the desktop computer to one of the LAN ports on the router. You will then have to use the web based configuration utility on the desktop to connect to the router and place it in access point mode. You will then have to enable Internet Connection Sharing on the desktop computer, by finding the USB network connection to the modem in Network Properties, double clicking on that connection, then clicking on the Advanced tab and checking the box next to Internet Connection Sharing (this assumes that the desktop is running Windows XP).
