File Share & Requested Logon Type Problem w/ System Error Message 1385
Hi,
Using "View Connections" from "My Network Places" on my Notebook I can see my desktop computer, but when I double click it I get the following error message:
"Logon failure: The user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer"
Article ID 249918, titled
Logon Does Not Work, System Error Message 1385 Appears, states the error is a result of the user account not having the user right "Access this computer from the network" and reccommends granting the user account this right using "User Manager For Domains." Also says it applies to Windows 2000, and certain NT Servers.
My system has no "User Manager for Domain" function/menu to adjust.
I'm running Windows XP Home Edition (on a Dimension 2350 desktop). Network is wireless using cablemodem/gateway combo unit with an Inspiron 7000 Notebook and the desktop only. Network Setup Wizard was run and File Sharing enabled on both computers.
I have no problem seeing and accessing shared notebook files from my desktop - just can't do the same the other way around.
Please Help.
Thanks.

On any computer running Windows XP with SP1, disable the Windows XP firewall. It will not allow File and Printer Sharing. On computers running Windows XP with SP2, make sure that the Windows XP firewall has File and Printer Sharing checked off on the Exceptions tab. If you are running any third party firewalls, like those provided by such programs as Zone Alarm, Norton Internet Security, or McAfee Security Center, make sure they are configured to allow local network traffic.
