HELP!!! WLAN AutoConfiguration (Error 1053), No Connections Are Available, The Windows Wireless Service Is Not Running on this Computer, & MORE!

I've had my Dell XPS for about 1.5 years and it had worked perfectly fine.  The Internet was working perfectly fine until I shut the computer down and turned it back on, only to find that I couldn't find a connection anywhere and a red x appears over the wireless bars in the bottom right corner.  When I hover over it, it says "Not connected- No connections are available," though it was just working!  When I troubleshoot, it states that the two problems are "The Windows Wireless Service is Not Running on this Computer" & "A network cable is not properly plugged in or may be broken."  When plugged in with an Ethernet cable, the Internet works fine, but still does not show any wireless availability.

When I went to different forums to figure this whole issue out, it told me to check Device Manager and make sure everything is working properly under Network Adapters and to check for new drivers (indicated by a yellow exclamation point or red x's for problems).  Just to double check, I uninstalled and updated all of the Network Adapters Drivers--they are all working properly.  I double-checked to make sure the wireless switch (Fn/F2 in this case) is on.

Another forum told me to check Services and to make sure WLAN AutoConfiguration was set to automatic and then to hit start, which I did; however, I receive a "Windows could not start the WLAN AutoConfig Service on Local Computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion." So, I looked for ways to fix that and it led to me to forums telling me to download Microsoft NET 1.1 Service Packs, however, those did not properly install on my computer.  I've used MalwareBytes to scan for bugs and deleted all corrupted files.

PLEASE, can ANYONE help me figure out how to fix this!

Hi ADAM2393,

It can be annoying when the WLAN Auto Configuration service does not turn on. Please follow the steps provided below that may fix the issue:

1. Click Start -> All Program -> Accessories.
2. Right click on “Command Prompt”, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.
3. In the command prompt window that opens, type the following commands one by one:

netsh winsock reset catalog

netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

4. Reboot the computer and check if the wireless works.

Please let me know about the status.

I had very similar symptoms on an XPS. I ran the commands as described above.  I still have a red x over the wifi connections icon.  The mouse over error still states, "not connected - no connections available." Network diagnostics tries to start the windows wireless service but times out.  It asks for an Ethernet connection. Network diagnostics then recommends plugging in an ethernet cable. I did that and it seemed to update some info but did not fix the issue.
