Help Please... I can't connect to internet
I have a desktop Inspiron 3647 windows 8.1 and after a storm and the internet/cable went out for a day and a half my husband got his internet back, I never did. The cable guy is saying that the Ethernet driver is missing. My computer says shows no sign of networking hardware. I can connect through WiFi but not through Ethernet. I don't have any idea what's wrong or how to fix this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
Since you can connect wirelessly I would recommend going to the support pages for the Inspiron 3647 desktop and run the diagnostics that you can find on that page. It should test the network card and let you know if there are physical problems for it.
Also on that page is a section for drivers and downloads. If you click on that icon it will take you to the drivers page, and under network you'll find the drivers for the Realtek integrated network card. (Not the wireless). You can download and install that driver and see it resolves the problem.
The next thing you could do is go to our Network and Wireless Support Center to find other articles on troubleshooting your problem.
I hope this helps. If it doesn't please come back and let us know what you tried and we'll see if we can suggest some other steps you can do.

Thanks, I've try to do that but keep getting this message so install is unsuccessful. The Realtek Ethernet Controller was not found. If Deep Sleep Mode is enabled Plug the Cable. So after researching this for days I'm convinced the storm damaged my Ethernet. I even tried to recover with the factory disk I made after getting my system but that didn't go well either. I don't understand just because I've had my computer just over a year now Dell won't answer my questions. especially with not supplying me with disk to start with. You don't know there is going to be a problem until you have a problem. When making my disk everything went as it should. I put in the disk and when it retracted the disk the message told me to put in another disk. I did, when it finished I labeled them 1 and 2 back up and was done. after the problem with the internet connection I thought maybe if I reinstalled it would put it back in there? so I put disk 1 in after it finished it restarted and never asked for disk 2. It didn't fix my Ethernet and my computer seems to be working fine other than that but I've got another disk here that was never installed. But still no answers from Dell. so I guess I'm just stuck with whatever because my computer is 14 months old.
