Help on setting up router using comcast

Hi, there:

I desperately need help connecting to the internet while using my router. It is a Dell Truemobile 2300 and my modem is a Motorola SB5120 issued by Comcast.
I can get internet connection to my computer directly from the modem , but I cannot connect to the internet from the router when the router is connected to the modem.  Also, I lost the setup CD, so I have to set up my router manually. If anyone can give me some advice on the both settings, it will be greatly appreciated.

Whenever you change the device connected to a cable modem you have to do a complete reset of the network.  Shut down everything, including in the modem.  Wait about 5 minutes.  Turn on the modem.  Wait another 5 minutes.  Next turn on the device that is now directly connected to the modem (the router).  Finally turn on the computers connected to the router.  If you need to change the configuration of the router, use the web based configuration utility as detailed in the users manual for your router.  The online version is at:

Thanks a lot for the reply, Steve.

But unfortunately, I still cannot get connection even after I tried several times according to your advice.

It is really strange that the "internet" indication light of the router kept on flashing. This is not normal, right?

The WAN light should be flashing occassionally if that's what you mean.

Just checked the set up page for the router. It said the IP for the router is NOT active. I guess this is the reason that the "internet" light keep on flashing.

Any clue on this situation? or how can I activate using the set up page?

Thanks for your help,

No matter wheteher you have an internet connection or not, you can still hit the setup page of the router, if you provide the correct authentication.  Connect via a wired connection to setup the router.

I have the same problem. Did anyone have a solution.
I recently bought Motorola SB5120 and return the rental Teryon modem. My TrueMobile 2300 router cannot get an IP address from SB5120. It can, however, get an IP address if it is behind my old Netgear 11b router.
Motorola email me back that there is SB5120 no firmware upgrade capability. My 2300 firmware is 5.1.1.6, the latest.

Please help. Let me know even if there is no solution. Buying a new router is OK.

Thanks.
