I think you mean you have a wireless networking card. Normally, you would run the "Wireless Network Setup wizard" (or whatever Vista calls) or the software that came with the hardware.
Basically, you need to setup the wireless access point (AP) or router for the SSID and encryption method and then match the wireless card on your laptop to those on the AP or router. It is not that complicated, but more complicated than a wired connection.
I do not have cable or DSL in my area. My laptop does have an 802.11 wireless card and a modem(not wireless), so all I need is a router for the phone line? or do I need a wireless modem too??
You can probably also use ICS (Internet connection sharing) on desktop with a modem connection (although I have never tried this through an wireless access point).
There is no way to do it with the wireless and the modem on the laptop.
