How to connect Inspiron 6000 to Cable Modem
Hi Gang,
I have an old Inspiron 6000 running XP Pro SP3 which is currently connected to a D-Link DCM-202 Cable Modem via the usb cable. The internet works fine. I recently decided to try the Ooma Phone System and that's where my problems began. The modem has a CAT-5 jack also, where I connect the Ooma unit to. The problem I am having is that according to Ooma, the unit is "not seeing" the internet connection. I hve contacted Comcast and they suggested that I try to run the laptop off of the CAT-5 connection to see if there was any signal coming out of it. When I did that, I got a pop up stating that the connection has little or no connectivity. So I'm thinking that I must hve to change the network connections on the Inspiron but I don't have a clue on how to do it.
Tnx in advance for any assistance you guys can provide me.
James

Hi James_S,
This is a known behavior of the cable modems when you are connecting it to the system for the first time. I suggest that you switch off the modem and remove the battery (in case there is a battery) wait for 2-3 minutes. Replace the battery and turn on the cable modem and check. Now there should be good internet connectivity, In case there is no connection, please contact Comcast and ask them to reset the connection once again.

Hi Sujatha,
Tnx for helping me solve one of my problems. Not only did your suggestion work, but I am now getting abt 25 Mbps per/sec
download speed per the Comcast speed test. This proves that my cable modem is able to connect to the internet. Why the Ooma won't see it I don't know. I've spent abt 5 hrs on the phone w/Ooma support going through their tier 1,2 & 3 levels w/no results. I got the Ooma from Costco and Ooma just sent me a replacement which yielded the same results. Instead of saving me money,it has only caused me aggravation. Maybe I'm better off just sticking w/my ATT land line service. Tnx again for your assistance.
