How to open port 139 or 445
Every where I look I see enquiries to close these ports. I wish to open them!! A file sharing program I have wont work becuse these ports are closed. I've tried everything that I can think of in the last 18 hours!! Winxp control panel hasn't helped, any ideas?

It's next to impossible to answer your question without knowing the device on which you are trying to open the ports and/or the name of the firewall you are running.

Thanks Steve: I'm running XP Home, I've disabled my Mcafee, Security Center, in fact, wiped it off the computer. I've disabled what firewall there is on Windows XP ( Don't have SP2 installed ). Looked in Control Panel and have done just about all there is too do in that regard, eg: Network Settings, Internet Settings, any suggestions???....

I have a cable connection, no router. I've gone to the sygate web site and it tells me that 139 and 445 are closed or stealthed. These ports are needed to work my file sharing program.

Just a thought...could your ISP be blocking traffic to those ports?

Thanks for the links Steve, I'll get to those later. As for my ISP, they insist they do not block the ports. When I phone them (they are very helpfull) they are of the opinion that it's deep in the registry!?
