The 1490 is a broadcom card. I don't believe broadcom makes linux drivers available.
You probably need to use ndiswrapper ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/ndiswrapper/ ). Ndiswrapper uses the windows drivers by using a wrapper interface. Your distribution probably already has ndiswrapper installed. Do a google search on how to use it.
There is the Broadcom driver in the one of the newest kernel. Try compice new kernel (2.6.19) for your distro and include Broadcom driver (module) or use ndiswrapper.
//Edit
And also if You have Ati grphics in your notebook, the newest kernel might not work with current ati linux driver.
