I can't access the internet after installing Norton Internet Security 2009.
I recently upgraded from Norton IS 2008 to 2009 and my operating system is XP Home SP2. I couldn't update my virus definitions ( which I later discovered I couldn't do until I first completed a quick scan).
I contacted Norton tech support through a chat window in the program. The chat window locked up just as he was about to take over remote control of the computer. Now I can no longer access the Internet. I can still connect to my LAN. Three other computers on the LAN work fine.
Also, if I open a Word doc and try to use and left click to open a hyperlink I receive this error message:"This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator (I have admin. priv.). Norton and ATT tech support have been unable to assist me.
I uninstalled Norton IS 2009 with the Norton Removal Tool and was still unable to access the internet.
I also tried to use System Restore and the several restore points I tried didn't work.
I have a Dimension 4600

Kvjimbo,
Try checking your firewall settings. Also try running WinSockFix and see if you can then connect.
