INTEL PRO/WIRELESS 3945ABG NETWORK CONNECTION

I have a Dell Inspiron e1405 laptop with the standard Intel Pro/Wireless 3945abg network card onboard. Does anyone know if this is a card or an integrated chipset on the motherboard. If it is a removable card, is it possible to replace/upgrade to either an onboard N adaptor or one with the new standard to communicate with 802.11ac? Thank you for your assistance.

Hi kmklein,

Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 is a Mini-Card installed in the Mini-card slot located on the bottom of the laptop. Please refer the following link for the Inspiron E1405 Owner’s manual: http://bit.ly/TD9Q5M

Page # 123 has instructions to remove and reconnect the Mini-card. Regarding your query about upgrading the Wireless card, following are the wireless cards that were offered with Inspiron E1405 laptop:

  • Dell Wireless 1390 Mini-Card Dell
  • Wireless 1490 Mini-Card
  • Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 Mini-Card

If you want to upgrade to a newer wireless card, please refer the following link for information about Wireless 1505 802.11 Draft n WLAN Mini-Card: http://dell.to/16ZW5FI

Do let me know if you have any further questions.
