IP and DSN connection issues

Question

Heya oout there,   Having some issues with my dimension 4550 running a INTEL (R) PRO/100 VE connected to RoadRunner cable.    One day I can access the web..no strange downloads or anything, next day I start the computer and I can't.  I am running cable internet from RoadRunner.  Tech came out and checked the modem (no router) with his laptop on the physical ethernet connection and had no problem.    So under IP config it will release, my computer will ping itself but after that no joy.  Under IP config /all I get the standard 169. address when XP can't find anything.  I have turned off all firewalls, run my virsus checks still no luck getting the DSN.  I went in under safe mode and admin no differences.  I have just downloaded the flash bios and updated drivers for it but have yet to try them.  I have reset the modem numerous times, restarted while on, while off so on and so on.  I also checked to make sure I was set to get IP automatically under the LAN settings and I am.  I am at a loss.  I assume a similar issue has been posted before but I didn't see it.   Cheers

Try downloading and running winsockfix for Windows XP from the Here Steve.

Thanks,   I have it ready to go.  Just have to get through work first.  If this doesn't work what is the next step?

Rather than have me spend twenty minutes writing out all of the possibilities if that doesn't work, why don't you just try and see.  Steve
