Inspiron 1100

Replaced harddrive and now needing to update drivers. Tried using the driver installation disk that came with the laptop but cannot seem to pull what I need. I did however go to the dell site for drivers and found what I needed for fixing the screen image but now am not seeing any network drivers. I downloaded the US WLAN driver but cannot seem to get it to load into the laptop...am I trying to figure out if I am doing it wrong or picked the wrong driver. I go to device manager and see that the ethernet controller and Multimedia Audio controllers have big yellow question marks by them, when I try to install again from the drivers disk it wants to go on line and search for the drivers but I cannot do since it wont connect anyway. Any suggestions?

evltwn,

As has been posted several hundred times in these forums, after reinstalling the Windows, it is absolutley essential to install the chipset drivers before even attempting to install any other device drivers.  If you did not install the chipset drivers, first, there is not way that you will be able to install the drivers for many other devices.

Uhmm Steve, I did install the chipset drivers first, thanks. I was able to find the modem driver to be able to put it on dial up so now am getting the updates from microsoft that are needed...the fixes are taking care of some of the problems that I have been having but because I am not too familiar with ethernet or cable connections I am lost as to which drivers I need. If it pains you so much to repeat what has been posted a hundred times over in these forums then why do you take the time to respond to try and make someone feel stupid rather than to be helpful?

Helmec, thank you very much for the information, will give that a try.

Assuming that the chipset drivers were installed before you even attempted to install the other drivers, your multimedia controller driver can be found at:

The ethernet controller driver can be found at:

Assuming you have the Dell wireless adapter, the drivers are at:

If the chipset drivers were not installed first, then you will have to remove any drivers through device manager before the chipset drivers were installed, and then try to install them again.

There is a wealth of information on these forums and it is too often ignored.  I encourage everyone to spend some time reading the forums before jumping in and posting the same questions over and over again.  Sorry if I offended you.

Thank you very much for the information and I apologize for getting so worked up, it was late and I am going nuts with this and being that my only option for getting any downloads are through a dial up modem so things are taking forever and it is making it very frustrating. I know I am a novice otherwise I would not be here looking for help.  I do appreciate it, thank you again.
