Inspiron 6000: WiFi Light will not turn on

I really need your help...please....would greatly appreciate it. - My Wifi light suddendly turned off couple days ago. - Tried everything - Downloaded dell quick set and pressed Fn F2 to see if that works - Reseated my wireless mini PC card, hoping it would reset and light would turnon - Nothing worked. - Right now, it just says that my wireless capabilities are turned off to turn it on press Fn F2 and that doesn't work - Then I tried to run some tests for the wireless connectivity and everything from the 3rd test(hardware) and onward failed. oh yeah, rest of the laptop works great only the internet problem. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Sounds like a bad internal wireless card. Do you have a wireless PC card or USB adaptor that you might try to get connected? Have you already tried updating the driver for your wireless card?

Hi,

Which wireless card do you have? Have you tried using the software radio switch on the card utility. Fn and F2 is the hardware switch for the computer. To make it very clear, two turn ON wireless, there are three switches.

1) Fn and F2 - Hardware switch. To check its functionality do it either through Quickset which shows up a Radio Tower with a "X" or no "X" on it or you should see the WiFi LED on the computer. (To check this i would like to know which dell notebook computer you have with details of the Operating System and the Wireless Card make)

2) BIOS switch -- Enter the BIOS setup screen by tapping the F2 key during Powering ON of computer. Depending on the model of Dell Notebook, you would have one page or branch having details about Wireless Control which should be ON. If you arent OK with this page, every computer's BIOS will have an option to Load Factory Default Settings which would be either by using Alt and F Keys or by going into the Maintenance Tab. tjhe reason why we are doing this is because by default Wireless is ON in the BIOS screen.

3) Software Switch -- On the Card Utility you would have options to turn ON and OFF the radio. This again depends on the wireless card you have.
If it is Intel Wireless Card, Start -- All Programs -- Intel Proset Utility -- At the bottom of this utility screen you would see an option to Turn ON and OFF the radio.
If it is Dell Wireless Card, Start -- All Programs -- Dell Wireless -- Dell WLAN Card Utility -- Make sure Enable Radio box is checked.

Other reasons why radio wont come ON could be because of "Card Not Detected" or "Drivers Corrupted". To check this, could you check in Device Manager to see if the Wireless Card is listed there.

Rgds

Chris Thank you so much. The 2nd option worked. The switch in BIOS was default to application and I changed it to Fn F2/APP. When the cpu started both bluetooth and wifi light turned on. The internet is working now. I highly appreciate you helping me. Thank you, Sam
