Inspiron 6000 w/ 2200BG - WPA/WPA2 supported?

I've got a Linksys WRT54G v5 wireless router which I'm trying to connect to.

It seems that I can only get a wireless connection if I disable security or if I use only WEP (64 or 128 bit).

I would like to use WPA or WPA2 preferably, however it refuses to work. I end up with the common problem of getting a connection but no IP address is assigned via DHCP and it drops the connection and continues retrying till it gives up. I've tried both the Intel PROSet client software and the MS client with no joy.

I've downloaded the latest drivers off intel as well, and there are no firmware updates for the Linksys.

Can anyone confirm that WPA/WPA2 is possible with the 2200BG in the Inspiron 6000?

Yes, it supports WPA and WPA2 connection to a WRT54G.  It could be the router's firmware that is at fault.  One way to find out is to connect the notebook to a friend's network that you know is protected by WPA, or borrow another notebook and try to connect it to yours.

Presumably you have entered your network key correctly on your 6000?

I use WPA with my I6000 and Intel 2200B/G. When setting up the wireless connection, first disable all security and firewalls until you get a connection. My MS router doesn't support WPA2, but WPA works fine. Get the latest driver just posted for the 2200 first--version 9.03--at the Intel Support site. Ignore the OEM warnings there and download and install the latest driver. There are some more instructions for WPA at the Linksys site that you should check out. Make sure you are using Win XP, too, on all your network computers to use WPA. If any computers are still using Win 98, you cannot use WPA. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/learnmore/bowman_05february10.mspx is a good start.

Thanks for the replies!

I've now managed to get WPA and WPA2 working, the intel 9.0.3.0 drivers seem to help.

It seems stable so far (touch wood!)

I'm working with a linksys router, but even with the "newest" drivers for the 2915 I can't connect to the network.

I'm running WinXP Pro, and I don't even see the option to choose WPA2 when setting up the network.

I see an option for WPA and WPA-PSK on when I look at the "Wireless Networks" tab when I add a perferred network. I've got the 9.0.3.9 version of the drivers from Intel.
