Inspiron 600m wireless network recognized, connected but cannot get on the web

my connection worked for a couple of weeks.  however, occasionally i would connect to a neighbor's network and that would make it not work.  usually, i switch it back to my own and it works.  now, i'm connected to my own network, but i cannot get on the web.  i'm using another laptop that's connected to my netgear router, so i know that is working.

i tried the suggestions in "giving up on inspiron 8600 thread .." and the "Unable to set up wireless connection on Dell Inspiron 600m" threads, but they didn't work.  the connections show that i'm connected, signal strength is excellent, there is no firewall set up on the computer.  also, the fact that it used to work is baffling me.  any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you tried changing the wireless broadcast channel that your router is using? Perhaps it's conflicting with your neighbor's wireless signal.

not yet... but if it's a problem with the router, the other computers should not get connection?  i'll try that and reply back.

Cool. For some reason I was thinking that the computers you weren't having a problem with were directly connected to your router via ethernet and the one you were having the problem with was wireless.

I know. It's frustrating and somewhat unprofessional, from the sellers perspective, to have the buyer tinkering around with software switches, reloading stuff and scores of other things with a new laptop. It's like buying very expensive pants at your local retailer, then when they come apart, at work, a quick call to the retailer has you understanding that the reason your new pants fell apart was because the thread used was 1.1 and that you'll need to go to a supporting retailer and get the new 1.2 thread to resew them - yourself. If most retailers did this, they just wouldn't be in business too long.

Does the laptop allow you to access the internet when you directly connect it too your router via an ethernet cable? I know you've already done this, but have you checked the router security settings are the same on both? Have you tried it without any security (WPA or WEP)?

Hi,

Sorry for spamming but i'm having similar problems.

Please see http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=si_wireless&message.id=7753 for my post on another similar thread.  From what you are saying it sounds like the same thing that is happening to me.

Please Help

I've plugged the laptop in, and it works when it's plugged in.

I've noticed that under "wireless network connection status" in the "support" tab, all the fields read " ".  Can someone help?
