Inspiron 8600 with Intel ProWireless 2100 WPA PSK but no AES ?

Dell Insiron 8600

Intel ProWireless 2100 Mini PCI Adapter

I've updated the drivers in the OS and the card.

In Wireless Network Connection Properties --> Wireless Networks tab --> available networks --> highlight my connection --> click Configure --> association tab --> Network Authentication --> set to WPA-PSK *and I want to set the Data Encryption to AES ( NOT WEP OR TKIP )* but AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) is not listed in the Network Key drop down menu.

Intel says the 2100 is capable of using AES but also that "AES requires PC software upgrade that will be available in 2H'04 and requires access point support. Available on 802.11 b/g only."  Has Dell not implemented this feature in the card?

Most likely, intel haven't yet provided drivers with it, and/or they are relying on Microsofts user interface. I'd consider it very unlikely that Dell have responsibility for implementing anything in the card (or, for that matter, in Windows).

The 2H '04 timescale looks as though it coincides with the approval of the full 802.11i (security) specification. Once that is released, AES (CCMP) will have an "official" definition, amongst other minor improvements.
