Invalid IP Address
I am having some serious IP issues. One minute I was surfing the Internet (connected to a wireless router) and then after dinner I noticed I had a clear as day signal, but it wouldn't let me connect due to "limited activity". After investigating the matter, I found out it was due to an invalid IP address. When I checked my IP address, it was 0's across the board. Not a single number, just straight 0's. :womanmad: I have no idea how this happened and I can't connect to the internet because of it. Anyone with any suggestions, pllllease help me. I have an Inspiron 8600 and I have Windows XP Professional operating system.

1) Try repairing the connection.
If that doesn't work,
2) Try disabling, then re-enabling the connection.
If that doesn't work,
3) Try rebooting the system.

Try power cycling the network... Power off modem, router and computers > wait 5 minutes > power on modem > wait another 5 minutes > power on router > then power on computers.
See if that fixs the problem?

Yeah,
I've tried that. I've even tried making a static IP Address (because when in DOS, there is nothing next to DNS). That didn't work either. I'm super frustrated and I really don't want to spend money to have someone fix it if I could do it myself. Please help! (anyone with any ideas)

A lot of users don't contact the Forum until they have exhausted every troubleshooting step that they are aware of. Unfortunately, for us their patience is stretched pretty thin by then...
Have you eliminated any of your network components, as suspect for failure?(cable modem or router)Hardwire your computer to your cable modem.(bypass router)If it still fails, contact your ISP and determine if they can ping your modem? If they can't, your problem is probably your modem.
If your modem does work, then hardwire your router back into the network and see if you can connect? This will help determine if your problem is with the wireless configuration of your router...
