Ipx/spx networking

Is there a way to make ipx/spx protocal for a network work on windows xp?  I have an older game id like to play over my network; it only can use ipx protcal not IP.  I followed the instructions on help and support and it said it installed it but when i entered the game The netowork game option is hidden.  In the game's manual it says it would only be hidden if the game doesnt detect the appropriate drivers for ipx/spx.  Anybody have a suggestion? I really appreciate it.

The following information within the online Windows XP Product Documentation may be helpful:

To enable file and print sharing on the IPX/SPX protocol

Only steps 1-6 should be necessary to actually install the IPX/SPX protocol under Windows XP. You should not need to unbind File and Printer Sharing from TCP/IP.

I already tried doing that and my game didnt detect the appropriate drivers cause the network game option was hidden.  I guess ill try it once more but i doubt anything different will happen.

I have an older game...

The version of the game may not be compatible with XP. It sounds like you've correctly installed IPX/SPX support, and the game still doesn't recognize that it's present.

Is there a newer version of the game available?

The game is Command and conquer red alert and there is no newer version out.  I know its compatible with windows xp cause i installed it all ok and have played via modem with a friend.  But id like to be able to play it on my home network.

Searching Google groups for Command and conquer red alert game ipx revealed lots of problems with XP's IPX compatibility, and  one success:

" IPX included with XP is not so compatible, go on NOVELL web site, download and install Novell client for windows XP, the IPX protocol in this package is more compatible.

worked for me.
