1394 is Firewire.

Ethernet is the most used method of connection on a LAN (Local Area Network).

Broadband is just a faster connection than, for example, dial-up. May be ADSL (Asynchronous digital subscriber line) -- telephone or through a cable connection or even perhaps fiber optic.

A google search on any of these terms will return lots of info.

The dell true mobile wireless card along with a wireless router and a cable internet connection or ADSL connection can help you connect to internet wireless within a specified range from your router

you can contact verizon for providing you high speed internet service ( ADSL ) or comcast for providing cable internet which again is high speed internet.

if you need to learn more about these stuff please send an email to me at techsupport4free@gmail.com

and i will collate some useful information for you and reply back

again you can search Google to know the world

Thanks to you both for the replies. For some reason my Dell can't "see" the LAN circuit anymore. I just wondered if 1394 was the IEEE designtion for ethernet. Thanks for setting me straight, and pointing me in the right direction.

if the lan adapter isn't showing up, hover over product support above and click downloads.  download the chipset driver and ethernet (network) driver and install.  also ensure that lan access is turned on in your bios (F2 at the Dell screen).
