Is WIFI speed only a theory?
Hello,
I have the following question regarding the WIFI speed. My home network is the following:
From the provider (Cablecom - Switzerland) I get 10 mbps down and 1 mbps up through a supplied "Cablecom" cable-modem (it is some sort of customized Cisco cable-modem). Directly to the cable-modem I connected a brand new WIFI cable/dsl router Siemens SE551, which is quite a good stuff, theoretically enabling 108 mbps transfer (Super G).
When I connect my Dell Inspiron 6400 equipped with the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG directly to one of the four LAN ports at the back of the router, my Dell really achieves the down- and up-load speed 10 and 1 mbps correspondingly.
But when I connect the Dell with the router wirelessly I can only achieve about 5.5-6.0 mbps (upspeed is 1 mbps). Signal strength is excellent so what is going on? Is the 54 mpbs speed only a theory? I could understand it if there were any obstacles between the notebook and the router but I made the check when the laptop was only maybe 1 m away from the router.
I hate the situation when my provider gives me 10 mbps download speed but I can only get around 60% of this. The position of the media-socket upon the wall where the signal comes is not the best and to avoid the whole spaghetti of wires and cables I would prefer to stay wireless but then I cannot get all that I pay for...
Any thoughts, please? Any ideas how to increase the speed?
